Why Turmeric?

Turmeric (from the root of the plant *Curcuma longa) is the vibrant yellow-orange spice used for centuries in culinary traditions and natural wellness practices. The magic lies in a compound called curcumin — a polyphenol responsible for turmeric’s color and many of its health-promoting properties.

Using turmeric is simple — and delicious! We encourage you to use our Spice Blends these ways. Here are tips to maximize its benefit:

  • Cook it with healthy fats – Curcumin is fat-soluble, so using turmeric in dishes with olive oil, coconut oil, nuts or seeds helps your body absorb more. 

  • Pair it with black pepper – Piperine (found in black pepper) boosts the absorption of curcumin significantly. A little black pepper goes a long way.

  • Add it into everyday meals – Mix turmeric (our Spice Blends) into rice, soups, roasted veggies, salad dressings or smoothies to make it part of your routine.

  • Look beyond supplements – While turmeric supplements are available, many benefits can come simply from including turmeric as part of a varied diet. Research is promising but still limited in some areas.

  • Turmeric is not a wonder cure. Although the research is strong for many of its health roles, it's not a replacement for medical care.

  • If you are on certain medications, or have conditions like gallbladder issues, bleeding disorders or iron deficiency, consult your healthcare provider before using high-dose turmeric supplements.
